Staff "Bios"
Rev. Dr. Bruce Loewenhagen - Pastor Bruce is the senior pastor at Midvale Community
Lutheran Church. He has held this position since February 2001. Previously he was pastor for 19 years at
Dekorra Lutheran Church near Poynette, Wisconsin. His first call was to Our Saviors in Soldiers Grove, and
Luther Memorial in Gays Mills.
Pastor Bruce grew up in Racine. He attended Carthage College in Kenosha and graduated in 1973 with
a B.A. in religion. He then attended Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa and received a Master
of Divinity in 1977. In 1997, he received a Doctor of Ministry from Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago.
His wife, Deanna (Annie) works for the Wisconsin Department of Commerce. She is also very close to Dottie
the Clown. Pastor Bruce has two adult children, Paul and Peter.
Pastor Bruce enjoys all outside activities especially softball, biking and hunting on his land in
Buffalo County. His goal for Midvale Community Lutheran Church is to grow as an active, spirit-filled and
led community of faith.

Brenda Goble - Brenda is the Director of Youth & Family Ministry. She graduated from Edgewood
College in May 2000 with a B.A. in Religious Studies. In September 2000 Brenda received her certification
from the Center for Youth Ministries at Wartburg Seminary. She accepted the position at Midvale in October
2000 and has been enjoying it ever since! She married Matthew Goble in October 2003. In her free time she
loves listening to pop music, going to movies, and vacationing at Disney World.

Nan Goble, Executive Secretary - Nan joined the staff of Midvale in July 1989. She lives in Mount
Horeb and has three grown children, Laura, Matthew and Jessica, and three grandchildren, Maria, Alex and
Tanner. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and being with her family.

Mike Bischoff - Maintenance/Custodian Staff Member
- Mike was born, raised, and graduated from high school in Verona. Mike and his family reside next door to
the family farm where he grew up with six sisters and two brothers. Donna works at CUNA Mutual Group as an underwriter. They have two sons, Alex and Aaron.
Mike continued his education at MATC with electrical and refrigeration courses. Previously he worked
fourteen years at Clark Heating and Cooling in Stoughton and then was co-owner for eight years. Mike has
many years of experience in heating and cooling, electrical, refrigeration, and carpentry work.
He enjoys hunting, nature, and spending time with his family and friends. Mike’s goal for Midvale is
organize, repair, maintain, and be helpful to the membership of the church.

Sue Carnell, Business Manager - Sue joined the Midvale staff in June 1989. She grew up in Park Ridge,
Illinois, attended high school in Wilmette, and graduated from the UW-Madison School of Business with a
degree in finance. Previously, Sue worked for Kraft Foods International and for UW-Madison in the
Engineering Experiment Station. Her family and friends bring her great joy. In her free time, Sue enjoys
a summer week in Door County with her family, going to movies, Bible study, walking outdoors, reading and
traveling.

Peggy Bezruki, Parish Nurse - Peggy Bezruki serves as Midvale’s parish nurse. In
this role, she strives to help people find their place of healing, as they look at their lives in a holistic
way, including, mind, body, and spirit. As a parish nurse, she seeks to bring faithful support, friendship
and professional expertise to ease the journey of the people she serves. Peggy is married, and has two
daughters, Amanda and Anna. She and her family live in Verona. In addition to her sixteen hours a week at
Midvale, she also works sixteen hours a week as a parish nurse at Lake Edge United Church of Christ, on
Madison’s east side.

Janice Hites, Coordinator of Choral Music and Handbell Director - Janice Hites has a degree in music
education from UW-Madison. Shortly after graduation she began her "career" as a church music director at
McFarland Lutheran Church. (She is not willing to share exactly how many years ago that was.) She has
served at several other Madison area churches and a church in Rochelle, Illinois, before joining the staff
at Midvale Community Lutheran Church in 1994. That happens to be when the remodeling project was being
completed, so she says it’s very easy to remember when she started here because that’s the date on the
new cornerstone.

Nancy Linder, Pianist - Nancy Linder grew up in Wadena, Minnesota. The youngest of four children,
she began taking piano lessons at the age of five. She attended Wartburg College where she sang in the
Wartburg Choir and studied piano with Ted Reuter. Upon graduation from Wartburg Nancy enrolled at
UW-Madison. She held assistantships in Piano Pedagogy and Accompanying while studying with Carroll Chilton
and Martha Fischer. Nancy earned her Master’s degree in Piano Performance in the spring of 1999, and three
months later she became Midvale’s pianist and Cherubs director. Nancy enjoys a variety of accompanying
"gigs" including work at UW-Madison and Edgewood College. Following in her grandpa’s footsteps, Nancy also
teaches piano lessons. In her free time, she enjoys baking, attending concerts and sporting events, camping,
and taking her dog Daisy to the Verona dog park, where she met her husband, Jack Linder (and his basset
hound, Sophie).

Jim Pharo, Instrumentalist - Jim has been the instrumentalist at Midvale Community Lutheran Church
since 1998. His family has been members for three generations. Jim has been playing guitar and singing
professionally since he was 14 years old! Besides playing at Midvale, he has his own band that plays
throughout the area. Jim also works at Oriel, Inc., a business consulting firm. He and his wife Tomee,
have been married for over ten years. They have no children but have three cats.

Theodore Reinke, Organist - Ted Reinke, organist at Midvale since 1999, has been a Madison area
church musician for 28 years. He is also active as an accompanist, serving as pianist for the Festival
Choir of Madison, Madison Savoyards, and Madison Opera Showcase. Ted is a native of Bear Creek, Wisconsin,
and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He lives
in Middleton with his wife Janet and twin sons, Thomas and Charles.

Dean Gardner, Organist - Dean Gardner, organist at Midvale since January 2004,
stays busy playing an average of four times a weekend for Madison area Churches. He has a degree in Finance,
and manages an Allstate insurance agency during the week. Dean is a native of Soldiers Grove Wisconsin, and
still remember the first time he played for Church as a young teen in 1972. Dean is single, and spends his
limited free time working out, reading and traveling.
