Caring and Service Ministries
Back to Church Ministries Page
Our congregation is involved in many service ministries to its members, the Christian community, and to
the greater Madison community. In addition to the activities listed below, we also offer our church
building to a wide range of community groups for their meetings and programs.
Home Communion Ministers: Volunteers bring the sacrament of Holy Communion to our homebound members once a month.
Prayer Shawls: Members of our congregation knit prayer shawls that are then given to persons
going through a difficult life experience. The shawl is a reminder of the constant presence of God in our lives
and the care and concern of our faith community for the person who receives the shawl.
Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN): Four times per year our church hosts homeless families in
transition to permanent housing. Volunteers are needed to prepare food, give rides, do laundry, serve
as hosts, and assist guest as needed. For more info about IHN: www.nihn.org

Homeless Shelter: On the first week of each month, volunteers from Midvale assist with the Grace
Episcopal shelter.
Adopt-A-Highway Project: Volunteers clean-up litter and trash along the West Beltline Highway,
between Midvale Blvd. and Whitney Way.
CROP Walk: This countywide event is a fundraiser for fighting hunger both locally and globally,
and occurs the second Sunday in October. For more info: www.cropwalk.org
Lutheran World Relief (LWR) Quilters: Quilters meet the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Tuesdays of each month
from 9:00a.m. – 12:00p.m. In addition to making quilts for relief efforts around the world, they also
assemble school kits, hygiene kits and other items. For more info about LWR: www.lwr.org
Food Pantry Collection: Non-perishable food items are collected in a bin in our church’s Gathering
Space and delivered regularly to the food pantry at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in south Madison.
Habitat for Humanity: Our congregation periodically participates in building projects with our
local Habitat for Humanity chapter. For more info on Habitat for Humanity: www.habitat.org
Care Team Ministry: Care Team volunteers are trained to assist members of the congregation.
They do light household tasks, outdoor work, shopping, provide transportation, and other activities to
Midvale members who cannot do these things for themselves.
